Women's Choir

Welcome to the Women’s Repertoire and Standards webpage!  All the women’s chairs at the division, state and national levels, look forward to serving you!

I am proud to announce that a new book entitled "Conducting Women's Choirs: Strategies for Success" is now in print and available through GIA Publications.  The book is edited and compiled by former National R&S Chair, Debra Spurgeon.  It is a fabulous book, and one that all women's choir directors should have in their library!  Check it out.

An update about our commission consortium….

ACDA Women’s Commission Consortium

The ACDA Women’s Commission Consortium is a group of women’s choirs that pool their resources to commission new works for women’s choirs.  The commission fee has been $250 - $300 per choir, which is due to the national ACDA office once our group is formed.

Consortium members receive the new works by PDF file and have exclusive rights to copy it for their own performance.  The member choirs and their conductors are listed on the work when published.  Choirs are encouraged to advertise their premier performances of the new works.

The composers for the 2012 Commissions are Paul Carey, Daniel Kallman and Dale Trumbore.  Paul Carey’s new work “Full Fathom Five” and Dale Trumbore's piece "Flare" have been completed and delivered to the commission members.

Previous ACDA Women’s Consortium Compositions

2011 – Moon Goddess by Jocelyn Hagen

2011 – Chapo Pou Fanm by Sydney Guillaume

2011 – Leshana Haba’a BiYerushalyam, arr. by Shawn Kirchner

2010 – Reasons by Elizabeth Alexander

2010 – Tundra by Ola Gjeilo

2008 – The Singing Place by Joan Szymko

2007 – Softly Little Child by Daniel Gawthrop

We currently have 32 choirs participating in the consortium.  The level of difficulty for the commissions is listed at advanced high school, college/university or community choirs.  If you are interested in participating and have not already indicated so, please email Dr. Iris Levine, National Chair for Women’s Choirs Repertoire and Standards, at IrisLevine@mac.com.  You will be added to our consortium email list.

Thank you for supporting women’s choirs!
